By any means possible...

This time of year everyone is cheesed for cross racing fall riding an generally fun.
I have a full arsenal of excuses( doesn't any good racer??). But this week I have strapped the road bike on the trainer and have 3 straight nights in the bank already. Yeah, it means nothing- but it's small steps. By any means possible...

Cheers!

the Buzz.....

Ok - so its been a LONG time since i've posted ans about as long since i have had any kind of consistent riding. There is a lot going on at SmottCo.. new addition to the family coming any day now, new job, etc. SO needless to say - most of you probably have already anticipated my excuses.
The good news it that its late august in chicago and that lends to a whole new Buzz in the air.. Yep - its Cross season!
I headed out to the XXX hosted Jackson Park relay cross last sunday - i needed to meet a few people about clothing. It was great to see all the craziness that cros brings - but also to see SOOO many people and families at this fun event. Its super easy to get out and ride, bring the family and have fun. Now i did not race this oast week - but i do have some hopes of pinning a number on shortly and trying not to vomin while i ride on grass in circles..

See you at the races!

Same view

So my road bike has not moved an inch from the position you see in the pic below this post. The good news is i have gotten pretty good at waking up and being on the bike by 5am. I have managed 2 days of commuting to work, and about 4 additional outside rides. Other than that, its been this same view.

I'm hoping that all pays off in a few weeks when i set out to visit The Enmark and take my game outside for a week. I have sheared through the winter growth to expose my truly pasty legs, and if all goes well i will come home with a sweet sunburn!
Should have some good pics and stories to post.

Happy New Year

So its taken me a WHILE to get the basement back in order, but thanks to some help from friends and neighbors, i think the STC is in better condition now than ever before. Granted there is only drywall on the top half of the walls, but you should be suffering - not looking around!

I already have a list of excuses going, so i know its gonna be a great year! I was going to start monday, but my iPhone had the alarm glitch everyone is talking about. My first ride was tuesday night for a whopping half hour. I did get on wednesday and today for an hour, and neither were as bad as i thought it would be. Hopefully its baby steps back in the right direction.

Here's to everyone in the midwest who is in the middle of Trainer Season!

November

So here we are past the halfway mark in November, and I actually have 12 hours on the bike. Generally I have hung up commuting and rely on the odd weekend ride to get any time in. I've been glad to push a few degrees colder and still enjoy some really nice afternoon rides home. ( thanx Pete!)
I'm still protesting the trainer, but it's now set up and ready for me to haul my carcass out of bed in the mornings.
I'm hoping to end with about 20 hours and stay ahead of where I usually am this time of year. I hope you are doing the same!

Cheers!
